Did You Travel By Air Over Labor Day?
September 7, 2005 09:29

Many people traveled by air this last Labor Day weekend.

With the bump in gas prices, it may have been cheaper to fly than to drive.

With all the crowds, did you find the security screening process all jammed up?

The security lines are one of the necessary evils of air travel. It can wear on anyone's patience.

One of the things that frustrates me the most is that if the travelers spent a little time preparing, the process could go faster for everyone.

I have some security screening tips on my website.

To read more, click here for screeining tips.

It still seems to me that the thing that serves to slow the security screening process the most is shoes.

Unless they are wearing airport friendly shoes, people have to be reminded to remove their shoes, and put them in a bin. This is then one more thing on the conveyor belt and one more thing that the screener has to look at.

Then the traveler must wait in their socks or bear feet (in the exact same place that many other travelers have stood bare-footed or in their socks). The shoes must be retrieved, the bin gotten out of the way, and then you get to put your shoes back on while retrieving you laptop and bags, all the while in a line that is forcing you to move.

I think that the lack of airport friendly shoes is the main thing that slows security screening for everyone. It probably adds 1-2 minutes per traveler for screening.

For more information about why I think security friendly shoes are so important,

I have found a great online vendor that has hundreds of airport friendly shoe styles in stock. If you are worried about buying shoes online, don't be concerned. Not only do they have free shipping, they also have free returns. So if you don't like them of they don't fit just right, you can send them back free.

Before I found this place, I wasted hours shopping in regular stores seeking airport friendly shoes.
I bought a few pairs that the clerk "thought" might have no metal, only to find out the hard way that they did.

Here's where you can shop from the largest selection I have found anywhere. Click on:

Please help everyone in the screening line behind you by getting yourself a pair for your next trip.

I've Finally Found Some More Airport Friendly Clothing
September 14, 2005 15:05

If you're like me, one of the things that you hate the most about air travel is the security screening process.

It is indeed a necessary evil.

I just saw the excellent Discovery Channel program about United Flight 93. "The Flight that Fought Back"

It reminded me that there are people with evil intentions. The terrorists, in their written instructions about how to hijack the planes on 9/11, described their victims as "animals".

So, thanks to them, we get to take off more clothing than we would prefer in public.

I have had numerous requests for airport friendly clothing, especially belts.

There is something humiliating about removing one's belt in public.

I have been searching for any good quality, airport friendly belts.

Other than recommending small buckles, I have been unable to find any.

I still haven't found the perfect airport friendly belts, but I have found some great airport friendly suspenders.

Introducing...

Look out Bose® ... There's a new noise cancelling headphone that is almost as good as yours.
September 22, 2005 21:33

Until recently, I had only recommended two noise cancelling headphones: The Bose Quiet Comfort® headphone (sold for $300 everywhere- no discounts), and the much less expensive, but impressive Plane Quiet® noise cancelling headphones.

But now there is a "new kid on the block". Priced at $200, the Solitude® noise cancelling headphone is giving Bose® a run for their money. They are made by the same company that makes the Plane Quiet® noise cancelling headphones.

The new Solitude® noise cancelling headphones boast equal or slightly better noise cancellation capability than the Bose.

While Bose® still has an edge by with being the industry leader in high quality sound capability, the basic noise cancellation that you can achieve with the Solitude® makes the lower price very attractive.

You'll enjoy better audio listening quality with the Bose® , but you have to ask yourself if it is worth the extra $100.

If superior noise cancellation is your main objective, then I recommend the Solitude® .
If you want that, plus the finest fidelity available, then you might want to spend the additional money for the Bose® .

Bose® offers a 30 trail period, and the company that I recommend for buying the Bose® also gives a lifetime satisfaction guarantee.

Have a wonderful, quiet flight...

More Details of the Fantastic New Solitude Noise Cancelling Headphones ®
September 23, 2005 16:40

In yesterday’s entry, I mentioned the great new noise cancelling headphone that performs almost as well as the Bose® , yet costs $100 less.

The new Solitude ® headphone has as good (they claim better) noise canceling capabilities as the more expensive Bose® .

Bose® still is the industry leader in fidelity, but at $100 less, you have to consider how much the improved fidelity of the Bose® is really worth to you.

When I posted yesterday’s entry, I hadn’t yet put together all the features and specifications of the Solitude® .

Well I have all those now…

To read a review of the Solitude® headphones,

For a general overview of noise canceling headphones, how they work, and why they are a great travel accessory, click on noise canceling headphone review.

If the $200 for the Solitude® is still out of your budget, there is still another option.

The same company that developed the solitude also has an impressive, low cost headphone that has high ratings.

To learn more about these,

Click on Plane Quiet.®

Bottom line...

Noise cancelling headphones are truly wonderful. Once you 've tried some, there's no turning back.

I think the best overall value out there is the Solitude.

Have a great and quiet trip.
