Do You Want A Little Noise Reduction Or The Best Available?
Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones Set The Standard

When it comes to noise reduction, the Bose noise cancelling headphones® are simply the best.

That's because in 1978, Dr. Amor Bose, unhappy with the headphones provided on his flight, got the idea for this technology. His company pioneered it and Bose® remains the leader in this technology.

You'll find Bose noise canceling headphones® in use with the U.S. Air Force, Army, and the best airlines.

On this page, I'll review why the Bose noise cancelling headphones® are second to none.

If you'd like more general information about noise cancelling headphones and how they can help you, Click here for general information about Noise Cancelling Headphones.

"Why Are Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones® The Best?

The Bose noise cancelling headphones® have the most comfortable, soft and cushioning ear cups. They provide better passive noise reduction than any others.

In their competitor's (one's with inferior ear cups) ads, they claim the Bose noise cancelling headphones® are bulky and heavy.

I disagree. I've worn them for hours without any discomfort. I can sleep easily while wearing them.

Hi, I'm Pilot Paul, a Captain at a major airline. I use Bose noise cancelling headphones® during my rest breaks on the long, international flights that I fly. Throughout my traveling career, there are many travel accessories I've used. One the most effective and best are the I've encountered are the Bose noise cancelling headphones® .

Bose noise cancelling headphones® are relatively lightweight.

Their ear cups are much more adjustable than many other brands.

If it's really hot, they can make you sweat a little, but it's never bothered me.

You'll frequently be delighted by these because they're so comfortable, you'll forget that you have them on. When you do remove them, you'll be surprised how much louder it is for everyone else who doesn't have them.

The Bose noise cancelling headphones® are so good, that many pilots of noisy propeller planes use them. Bose makes a special model of pilot headphones for radio communications.

Their newest model, the Bose Quiet Comfort 2® , has eliminated the external battery pack. This gives you even more freedom of movement. That's especially true if you're not listening to any audio, and using them for noise reduction only.

There is now a single AAA battery (down from two). It's in one ear cup. This single, small battery will give you quiet relaxation for 35 hours.

Like the original, The Bose QuietComfort 2 ® comes with a slender protective case. It easily fits into your briefcase or carry-on. The new case is harder to further protect your investment.

This easy of transport is very important. That's because once you get some of these, you'll be addicted to them. You'll feel like you won't be able to travel or function without them. Keep them handy.

Remember that these are more than just a terrific travel accessory. You can use these to create a quiet sanctuary anywhere.

"Here's What Some Audio Experts Are Saying about Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones® "

If you want additional opinions about the Bose noise cancelling headphones® , here's what others are saying: text:

  • "Even in the nosiest environment, wearing these phones creates a calming quiet zone for easy listening or just snoozing." Writes Jonathan Takiff of the Philadelphia Daily News.

  • They are "worth every penny" Business Traveler Magazine.

  • "It's as if someone behind your back reached out, found the volume control of the world, and turned it way, way down." Technology Review.

  • In regards to enjoying music more with Bose noise cancelling headphones® , Travel & Leisure Golf writes, "Forget 'concert-like' comparisons, you'll think you're onstage with the band."

I can personally attest to this. In addition to being an airline pilot, I'm also a semi-professional musician. I've always been amazed and disappointed by the difference in how things sound up there, in the middle of the horn section, compared to out in the audience or on a recording. With the Bose noise cancelling headphones® , the sound is a close to being onstage as I've ever heard.

  • As for the comfort of the Bose noise cancelling headphones® , the News Gazette reports "Its easy to forget they are on your head".

As I mentioned, I can sit or sleep for hours with these on.

  • Yes, these aren't cheap, but respected audio critic Rich Warren says, "Your hearing and sanity are worth at least $300".

I made a common mistake with the first noise cancelling headphones I bought. I tried to be frugal. I bought one of the lower-priced models that you can find at the mall.

They didn't last long and simply didn't do the job like the Bose noise cancelling headphones® can.

A Bose® representative once told me that the Bose® ones are often the second pair people buy. Many Bose customers first bought a competitor's model and were disappointed with them. Then they went out and spent more money to finally get the Bose noise cancelling headphones® .

If you make this same mistake like many of us have, you'll end up spending more money. It's cheaper to just buy the best ones first, and not mess around with inferior ones you'll want to replace.

Bose noise cancelling headphones are a great investment in your

  • Rest
  • Productivity
  • Comfort
  • Attitude.

Now There is a Newer Bose Noise Canceling Headphone Available

Bose recently developed a lighter, smaller, on the ear noise canceling headphone.

It is the Quiet Comfort 3 noise cancelling headphone.

Here's a link to learn more:

Bose® QuietComfort 3 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® Headphones

I have used these extensively.

I like their newer technology in that even though they do not go completely over your ears (thereby making them more comfortable) they still provide exceptional noise cancelling capability.

As with all Bose products, the fidelity for listening to audio is excellent.

The only drawback that I find with these and all on the ear headphones, is that if you want to use them in conjunction with foam earplugs (giving you even more quiet) they become uncomfortable.

With over the ear headphones, there is room to wear foam ear plugs without the headphones pressing on the earplugs (that is annoying).

The over the ear type of headphones put pressure on the foam earplugs, which makes the two incompatible.

As a side note...

I worked with an University audiologist researcher to test the effects of wearing foam earplugs and noise canceling headphones.

The results were interesting and not what I had originally guessed.

If you want total quiet, it is a good idea to combine ear plugs with headphones.

BUT, if you are listening to any audio, you should not wear both. If you do, you end up turning up the audio volume so much more to overcome the ear plugs that it has the volume at a level tht can damage your hearing.

Bottom line...

If you want lots of silence I recommend the

QuietComfort 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones

and use them with ear plugs.

To listen to audio also, take out the plugs.

If don't see yourself ever using the foam plugs and headphone together, then I recommend the Bose® QuietComfort 3 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® Headphones

P.S. If the Bose® $300-$350 price is out of your budget, and you still want some noise cancelling headphones, don't worry- there are two other options that may fit your budget.

The new Solitude ® noise cancelling headphones are $100 less than the Bose® and do a very good job.

For a review of the these click here for Solitude® headphones .

The Plane Quiet ® headphones do a good job and cost less. They are in the lower price range and out-perform many of the medium priced ones.
