Why I Made the Pilot Paul Website and Why You Should Make One Too.

The Basic "About Us" Bio...

Pilot Paul has been involved in military or commercial aviation since 1977.

While growing up, he traveled extensively with his family and has been a professional traveler for well over 30 years. These years have afforded the chance to have countless conversations with other crew members about their travel gear. He's heard a lot about what they liked and didn't.

Now this helpful information is all passed on to you.

His flying experience began during college flight instructing andflying for a commuter airline, then on to aerial dog fighting in F-4 Phantoms, and now commanding wide body jets on overseas flights.

He's been with one of the world's largest airlines since 1984. He is presently a Boeing 767 and 757 Captain flying international routes out of Chicago O'Hare Airport.

He's also flown as Captain on MD-11's, MD80's, Boeing 727's and Fokker 100's.

He lives outside of Chicago with his wife and two boys.

Pilot Paul explains how this all began...

We all remember where we were that day when we heard the news.

We were stunned.

I consider it and act of God that I was home, watching it from myfamily room with my family.

Just in from a morning jog, I received a phone call form a friend who was in tears.

When I answered, she tearfully said, “Thank God you ‘re home.”

She knew that the most frequent flights I was doing then were morning trips to La Guardia and Newark.

She told me to turn on the TV- I saw an image I never want to seeagain- an airplane that I had flown, carrying innocent people,including co-workers of mine, crashing into the World Trade center.

The reason I say it was an act of God that I was home that day was that I originally was supposed to fly to Newark that same morning.

Due to a rescheduling, I wasn’t on a New York trip that morning.

The flight I was to fly ended up diverting , and the crew was stranded in Raleigh for 5 days.

I was able to be home with my family. Had I been flying to new York that day, think about the stress for my family from when they first learned of the attacks to when I was able to call and let them know that I was OK.

The events of 9-11 helped birth Pilot Paul because I was painfully reminded of the tenuous nature of the airline business.

I had been thinking of starting some sort of business, (even though I had no idea what), but that was the turning point for making me commit to develop some sort of other income.

As an avid reader of personal finance books, I know that I need to develop something that would earn residual income.

I needed to develop some sort of income where I could do something once, and continue to be paid for it.

The "what" question of my business was also answered, also due to the aftermath of 9-11.

I absolutely hated taking my shoes off for security. The entire process of taking them off, putting them on the bin for X-ray, walking around in my socks where everyone else had, sporting holes in my socks (I hate to sew), and then trying to put my shoes back on at the same time asretrieving my bags from the conveyor belt all the while trying to scoot down the line to make room for the next people.

Granted, I sometimes (OK, frequently) suffer from a bad attitude about going through security.

It is a necessary evil, but come on, I’m about to command a jet with 245 passengers and crew on a North Atlantic crossing.

Do I really need to pull out my lip balm and put it in a quart sized zip lock bag?

If I was deranged enough to want to hurt people , I don’t need myBlistex to do it.

But I digress...

One of the early annoyances was taking off my shoes for security.

I kept asking the TSA Screeners what shoes had no metal.

They told me of a few kinds, I also asked the shoe salesmen (who had no idea) and ended up buying three different pairs of pricey shoes with allegedly no metal, only to hear them beep in the magnetometer.

At the time, no one was selling airport friendly shoes.

That was it! My business idea! Sell Airport Friendly shoes online!

Unfortunately, there were others who beat me to it, so I wasn’t the first. (I still like to think that I was the first to have this idea (who knows) but to their credit, they acted quickly).

I also knew I wanted to do it online, by no kidding, I could barely type and despised email because my tying was so painstakingly slow.

I got hung up because I didn’t want to have a garage full of shoes and having to come home from a trip and fill a bunch of orders.

That’s when I read a book that changed my life- "The Affiliate Master’s Course."

That book explains how I could, without any computer skills, build a web site that did well with the search engines.

That was one part of the equation- getting people to find me online.

But what really turned the light on for me and allowed me to launch my business, was the concept of affiliate marketing.

This site is an affiliate site.

Affiliate marketing is where someone with a website refers a visitor from their site to a separate online vendor, usually by recommending a specific product.

If the person then purchases the product, the original site ownerreceives a commission from the online merchant. (this doesnot cost the consumer anything. They pay the sameprice.)

This is a popular method of bringing new customers to a business, and they are willing to pay the affiliate site owners.

One of the largest online shoe vendors has an affiliate program and hundreds of airport friendly shoes.

This was just what I needed... to not have to stock hundreds of shoes, take credit cards, ship and handle returns.

All I had to do as and affiliate is send people to their site.

Even though at the time, my site was one of the highest ranked sites for people searching for airport friendly shoes, I was glad that I had diversified/expanded the site to include other travel accessories that I was familiar with and could review and recommend.

Again, I thank SBI for that.

As I was first researching all the keywords that travelers might use for online searches, I discovered that I could easily broaden the site concept to include travel accessories.

As a professional traveler, I felt qualified to review and recommend certain travel accessories that I was personally familiar with.

I cannot describe how excited I was when that first affiliate commission check came in the mail.

I ran around whooping and hollering, “It works! It works!”

• I have made several new friends who are successful entrepreneurs. While they are helping people with their websites, but they are also able to make obscene amounts of money in the process.

The beauty of this is that these things can all be done when I have the time.|

I am writing this page right during a flight (don’t worry, I’m a passenger, not the Captain on this one) now when my wife and I are taking a quick get-away.

Later this trip, if there is a good time. I’ll put this page online using my laptop and the hotel Internet service. Otherwise, it will wait until I’m home and have a break around the family schedule.
