"How Do These Headphones Work?"

* Passively- Insulated ear cups simply block noise.

* Actively- They electronically cancel sound waves.

They pick up a sound, process it, and then create a new sound that effectively cancels the original sound. Because of this, they work best on loud, monotonous sounds like the flowing air in airplane cabins or engine noise.

"What To Expect From A Quality Pair"

If you wear these at home (as I often do), and your child screams, you'll still hear that.

When you first put some on, you'll initially notice the passive effect- all noises are reduced by the insulated, padded ear cups.

After you're wearing them, turn on the active cancellation to reduce the droning sounds. At first, you might only be moderately surprised by the amount of noise reduction- but wait about ten minutes.

Here's why...

After a few minutes, your brain begins to disregard many background noises. While they're present and can cause fatigue, you lose your awareness of them.

After ten minutes, take them off.

Now you'll really be amazed by the amount of noise they had been canceling.

You can use your noise cancelling headphones to listen any audio device, just as with regular headphones.The difference is that with noise cancelling headphones, everything will sound much better. Since most of the background noise is gone, you'll discover new levels of listening enjoyment.

With a good noise cancelling headphone, you'll also be able to listen to your favorite recordings and movies at a much lower volume. That's because with them, there is no background noise with which to compete. This is much better for your hearing.

I often use noise cancelling headphones with a MP3 or CD player. I'll leave the volume set at the level I used with the noise cancelling headphones, and later switch to regular ones. What's interesting is that volume setting I used with my noise canceling headphones was so low that when I tried using regular headphones, I couldn't hear anything. The volume had to be turned up quite a bit more so I could hear with the standard, non noise canceling headphones.

You can also use noise canceling headphones by themselves. You don't need to be listening to anything through them to enjoy the silence they create.

When you wear your noise canceling headphones, it tells the people around you that you're serious about getting some peace and quite. They will be much less inclined to disturb you.
